Introduction: CAPT Mike Ange, PhD, is a diving instructor and maritime expert whose extensive experience and qualifications have made him a distinguished figure in the world of diving. With over three decades of experience, Mike has dedicated his career to ensuring the safety and competence of divers, providing comprehensive training in technical, scientific and recreational diving. He is the author of 11 non-fiction books, including several advanced diving textbooks published in 17 languages and over 300 magazine and journal articles published on 3 continents.Β In addition to his remarkable diving career, he holds a Ph.D. in Psychology, with a research focus on surviving critical incidents further enhancing his ability to educate and guide divers in challenging environments. In his career he has trained thousands of divers and hundreds of instructors at all levels.

–Technical & Public Safety Instructor Certifications:
- American Academy of Underwater Sciences: Scientific Diving Instructor, Diving Safety Officer.
- Emergency Response Diving International (ERDI): International Training Director from June 1999 to December 2004. ERD-2 Instructor Trainer for all levels.
- International Association of Nitrox and Technical Divers (IANTD #132): Instructor Trainer for TRIMIX, Closed Circuit Rebreather, Semi-Closed Circuit Rebreather, Technical Wreck Diving, Technical Cave Diving, Cavern Diving, TRIMIX Gas Blending, and Nitrox.
- Professional SCUBA Association International (PSAI): Managing Director of the Americas Division in 2005-2006. Instructor Trainer Examiner (#3) for all levels.
- SCUBA Schools International (SSI): Technical Extended Range Instructor Trainer, Platinum Pro 5000 Instructor, and Member of the Technical Diving Safety Board from 2006 to 2012.
- Technical Diving International (TDI): Instructor Trainer (#94) for all levels, including Closed Circuit Rebreather, Semi-Closed Circuit Rebreather, Advanced TRIMIX, Advanced Wreck, and Advanced Gas Blending.
Note: In early semi-retirement Mike has allowed some of these certifications to become inactive but he is in good standing with every agency.

- CMAS (Federacion Mexicana De Actividades Subacuaticas): Three-star instructor.
- National Academy of SCUBA Educators (NASE): Instructor Trainer for all levels (inactive).
- Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI): Master Instructor, Master Scuba Diver Trainer, Emergency First Response Instructor, Medic First Aid Instructor, and Diving Education Counselor.
- SCUBA Diving International (SDI): Instructor Trainer for all levels.
- SCUBA Schools International (SSI): Global Program Manager for the TXR (Tech) Division from 2009 to 2012, Dive Control Specialist Instructor, Instructor Trainer, Platinum Pro 5000 Instructor, and Inducted into Platinum Pro 5000 Foundation in 2006.

πΉ Survival Psychology Expertise: Dr. Ange’s educational background includes a Ph.D. in Survival Psychology, providing a unique and valuable perspective on human behavior and decision-making in challenging and high-stress situations. This expertise enhances his ability to train divers and offer expert consultation services, emphasizing safety, problem-solving, and risk management. He has published over 100 analysis of diving accidents and has done expert work in diving fatality lawsuits from Boston to San Diego as well as outside the US.
Outside of diving Mike flies as SAR Air Crew and a ES communication center commander for the US Civil Air Patrol/Air Force Auxiliary. He serves as a squadron commander and aerospace education officer for a CAP combined cadet and senior squadron. He is also active in veteran’s issues and is a US Army vet with service in Gulf War 1.
